In waterjet cutting, the stream remains perpendicular to the material being cut at all times.
The supersonic stream accelerates abrasive particles and erodes the material. It is capable of cutting hard materials such as metals, glass, stone, and composites.
Using standard parameters, waterjet cutting can cut almost any material even with hardness up to and slightly beyond aluminum oxide ceramic and over 350 mm thick.

Water Jet cutting uses an ultra-high pressure stream of water to carry an abrasive grit. The abrasive does the cutting through a mechanical sawing action, leaving a smooth, precision cut surface.

Waterjet is the most versatile process, because it is able to cut almost any type of material. Limitations include materials that are highly brittle, such as tempered glass and some ceramics.

Water jet is a very precise cutting process. It has a narrow kerf width, allowing fine contours to be cut, and producing high tolerance parts. However, it is a very slow, expensive process when compared to plasma on most metals.

Abrasive waterjet cuts at various speed allowing us to control quality, speed and cost.  

The cutting-edge finish does change depending on material that is being cut.

Below illustrate 5 different settings resulting in 5 different qualities of cut and the finish cutting edge it will leave.  


Q1 cutting quality

Q1 - Quality 1 is the fastest  cutting speed for our abrasive  waterjet.
Q1 is used for rough  cutting when edge finish, taper  or tolerances are not important.

Q2 cutting Quality

Q2 - Quality 2 is the  second fastest cutting  speed for our abrasive  waterjet.
Q2 is used  for cutting when finish  is not important and  secondary machining  is used.

Q3 Cutting Quality

Q3 - Quality 3 is the most  commonly used setting.
It  offers good to very good cutting  finish, depending on material  being cut.
Cutting speed is  good and able to hold standard  tolerances with tapper control.

Q4 cutting quality

Q4 - Quality 4 delivers  a very good to  excellent  cutting  finish.
Secondary  finishing is usually not  nessecary.
Holds tight  tolerances with tapper  control.

Q5 cutting quality

 Q5 - Quality 5 delivers the best cutting finish available with an abrasive waterjet.
No  secondary finishing is required  and holds tight tolerances with tapper control.
Cutting is slow and more expensive.
